Hawthorne has an association with the heart, it is a lovely tight grained wood to work with giving an ultra-smooth finish. It starts out creamy white but is susceptible to spalting soon after being cut and the heartwood then turns a deep chocolate brown with an uneven margin making for interesting end-grain patterns.
